OPTIONAL: Before leaving your initial yard, and on some railroads, some or all station stops, you must obtain, from the dispatcher or station agent, a Clearance Form “A”. The clearance form should list all accompanying train orders and display the number of messages for your train. This is a form that need not be instituted until the basics of operations are understood. It merely moves us towards prototypical railroad practices (from the past).
