Staging Checklist – Nov. 2019

Entire trains need to be staged in 3 locations: 

1. St Johnsbury, 
2. St Albans & 
3. Cambridge Jct.

Additionally there need to be cars spotted at various industries and interchange sidings along each route. A few extra cars, expecially at St Johnsbury, can be added to the train(s) to ensure adequate cars are moved, during the session, to be available for staging the next operating session.

St Johnsbury to Morrisville Turn (3rd Class)

Start in St Johnsbury with minimum

1 – 5   MT log flats for Fairfield interchange track
1 – 2   Milk car/Reefers to St Albans for Greens Corners (next session)
4 – 6   Box cars to St Albans (next session)

Along the Route

1 – 2   Any type cars on Danville spur (optional enroute to Morrisville)
1 – 2   Any type cars in Greensboro (optional either direction)
1 – 2   Any type cars in Hardwick (optional either direction)
1 – 3 Gondolas w/cut stone @ Hardwick Stone
1 – 4   Swap C/C Box cars/Covered hoppers @ Wolcott Talc
1 – 2   Swap C/C Box cars @ Koos Lumber

NOTES
1.  Extra cars that go through to St Albans are needed in St Johnsbury as the St Albans turn makes more swaps
2.  Cars with visible loads (flat cars & gondolas) may need to be manually respotted before next session

St Albans to Morrisville Turn (3rd Class)

Start in St Albans with minimum

1 – 2   Box cars for Greens Corners Shed Track
1 – 2   Box cars for Fairfield interchange (to Lumber Mill)
1 – 2   Box cars for Koos Lumber
1 – 4   Box cars/Covered hoppers for Wolcott Talc
1 – 2   Milk car/Reefers for Greens Corners Dairy
???     Cars to leave off in Sheldon Jct for interchange
1 – 5   MT log flats to leave on Fairfield interchange track
???     Tank cars for spotting @ Fairfield Fuel
???     Box cars/Covered hoppers for spotting @ Fairfield Co-op
???     Cars to leave off in Cambridge Jct for interchange (toward Essex Jct)

Along the Route

1 – 2   Swap Box cars on Greens Corners Shed Track
1 – 2   Swap Milk car/Reefers @ Greens Corners Dairy
???      Cars to pick up at Sheldon Jct from interchange (could go to Morrisville or be spotted en route)
1 – 3   Loaded log flats heading East (can leave others, if any, to head west on return trip)
1 – 2   Swap Box cars on Fairfield interchange (from/to Lumber Mill)
???      Cars to pick up from Fairfield Fuel & Co-op (heading toward Morrisville or beyond)
1 – 3   MT gondolas in Cambridge Jct to pick up for spotting @ S&S Quarry in Johnson
1 – 3   Gondolas loaded w/rough granite for pick up from S&S Quarry in Johnson

NOTES
1.  Empty log cars dropped off from both directions on St Albans turn to keep lumber mill operator busy
2.  Loaded log cars could be heading in either direction to create extra moves for St Albans turn
3.  Cars with visible loads (flat cars & gondolas) may need to be manually respotted before next session
4.  If enough operators, run St Albans turn as two section train & divide up swaps, pickups & spots

CV oil run via Cambridge Jct (2nd Class)

Start in Cambridge Jct with

6 – 12  Tank cars (Full)
2 – 3    Buffer cars

Start in St Albans with

6 – 12  Tank cars (MT)

At Fairfield

2 – 4   Swap C/C Tank cars (MT) @ Fairfield Fuel with remainder on oil train continuing on to St Albans

NOTES
1.  Optionally, substitute Sheldon Jct for St Albans for above run

Lumber Train (Run as Extra)

Start in St Albans with minimum

1 – 2   Box cars for Fairfield interchange (to Lumber Mill)
1 – 5   MT log flats to leave on Fairfield interchange track

Along the Route

0 – 2 MT flat cars (stake-sided) @ Sheldon Jct to move to Fairfield interchange
0 – 1 Box car @ Sheldon Jct to move to Fairfield interchange
1 – 5   Loaded log cars returning to St Albans
0 -2   Box cars returning to St Albans

Dedicated Lumber Mill switch (Run as Extra)

This operation moves, at discretion of operator:

Loaded flat cars from saw mill to finishing shed
Loaded flat cars from saw mill to Fairfield interchange
Box cars from finishing shed to Fairfield interchange
MT flat cars from finishing shed back to saw mill
MT flat cars from Fairfield Interchange to saw mill
Box cars from Fairfield Interchange to finishing shed

 Through freight(s) (Class 2)

Through freights can depart St. Albans and/or St Johnsbury to generate extra traffic. Stops at Cambridge Jct and Sheldon Jct to interchange traffic will add some interest. This would be a good introductory set of runs for a new operator. Or both runs can operate simultaneously with a meet set by the dispatcher (you) and conveyed via Form 19 Train orders.

Passenger (Class 1)

The passenger train will run from St Johnsbury to St Albans & return with stops:

Greensboro
Hardwick  (Stoneworks)
Wolcott
Morrisville
Johnson (Quarry)
Cambridge Jct
Fairfield
Sheldon Jct
Greens Corners (only if conductor is notified or waiting passengers are visible)
